Its true, your whole life can change in an instant.

At the moment Im at my parents house. I only see my parents once a year. They live on the other side of the country.

Cuando estoy acá, me gusta ayudar mis padres. A veces limpio, a veces lavo, a veces miro sus aburridos programas de televisión.
When Im here, I like to help my parents. Sometimes I clean, sometimes I do the washing, sometimes I watch their boring tv shows.
A mi madre le encanta leer. Ella lee mucho.
My mum loves to read. She reads a lot. Today I take her books back to the library. Its a short walk, only fifteen minutes. There are many books. When I arrive, my arms are tired.
¡Exactamente igual!
At the library, I put the books on the front desk. I look up and I see a man. He is 20 years older than me, but he looks the same. Exactly the same!
The same eyes, nose, mouth, hair… how is it possible? I can only think of one reason: he is my real dad!
Corro a casa. Necesito preguntar a mi madre. Mi mente corre. ¿Es verdad? ¿Es real? Llego a la casa. En la cocina, encuentro a mi madre. Intento hablar, pero no puedo. Necesito tomar un respiro.
I run home. I need to ask my mum. My mind races. Is it true? Is this real? I get to the house. In the kitchen I find my mum. I try to talk but I cant. I need to take a breath.

She smiles and says, Oh, youre back.

I ask who is the man at the library. Her expression changes. She pauses. The seconds seem like minutes.

No puedo respirar.
She explains I am related to him. I can’t breathe. My world is broken. I ask if dad knows. She says yes, that is why he never goes to the library.
Me siento frío. No puedo pensar.

I feel cold. I can’t think. I feel sorry for dad. He is a good man. How can my mother do this?

I say I want to know everything about my real dad.

Mi madre esta confundida. Pero tú sabes todo sobre tu padre. ¿Qué quieres decir?.”

El hombre en la bilbioteca,digo.

My mum is confused. But you know everything about your father. What do you mean?

The man at the library,I say.

She laughs, What? That’s not your dad, that’s your uncle! Your father doesn’t like your uncle. That’s why he doesn’t go to the library. Why do you think he is your dad?
Porque me veo como él.

Bueno, por supuesto. Ustedes son parientes.

Because I look like him.

Well, of course, you are related.

Necesito relajarme.

I smile. My world is ok again.

“Mum, can we watch something boring on TV? I need to relax.”
