Las alarmas suenan; la gente grita. Tomo el dinero y corro.

The alarms sound, people scream. I grab the money and run.

Me siento culpable. Me siento mal. Soy una buena persona.
I feel guilty. I feel bad. I’m a good person.
Normalmente no hago nada como esto. En este momento mi vida es difícil. No tengo opciones.
Normally I don’t do anything like this. At the moment my life is difficult. I don’t have options.
Abro las puertas del banco. Corro por la calle. La gente grita cuando ve mi arma.
I open the doors of the bank. I run down the street. People scream when they see my gun.
Puedo oír el sonido distante de sirenas de policía. Corro hacia un callejón.
I can hear the distant sound of police sirens. I run into an alley.
Estoy corriendo rápido, tan rápido como puedo. Puedo sentir la adrenalina.
I’m running fast, as fast as I can. I can feel the adrenaline.
Estoy a mitad de camino por el callejón. Veo una caneca de basura grande. Paro.
I’m halfway down the alley. I see a large rubbish bin. I stop.
Me quito el disfraz. Pongo el sombrero y la peluca en la caneca de basura. Me quito la camisa.
I take off the disguise. I put the hat and wig in the rubbish bin. I take off my shirt.
Miro alrededor. Veo a una señora vieja en una silla de ruedas al final del callejón. Me escondo detrás de la caneca.
I look around. I see an old lady in a wheelchair at the end of the alley. I hide behind the bin.
Me cambio los pantalones. Mis zapatos se atascan. ¡Rápido!, ¡rápido! Me pongo una camisa.
I change my pants. My shoes get stuck. Quick, quick! I put on a shirt.
Me pongo el bolso en el hombro. Arreglo mi cabello y tomo un gran respiro. Camino tranquilamente por el callejón, de regreso a la calle.
I put my bag on my shoulder. I fix my hair and take a big breath. I walk calmly down the alley, back towards the street.
Las sirenas de la policía estan cerca. Oigo los autos de la policía parar frente al banco.
The police sirens are close. I hear the police cars stop in front of the bank.
Llego a la calle. ¡Oh no! La policía esta justo ahí, corriendo en mi dirección.
I reach the street. Oh no! The police are right here, running in my direction.
Doy vuelta a la calle. Me alejo. Oigo una voz fuerte. “Oye, ¡tú!”
I turn down the street. I walk away. I hear a loud voice. “Hey, you!”
Paro. No puedo correr. Ya esta, mi plan falla. Me volteo hacia el policía. Tiene su arma en la mano.
I stop. I can’t run. This is it, my plan is a failure. I turn to the police. He has his gun in his hand.

Respondo tranquilamente, “Sí.”

“¿Hay un hombre en el callejón? Él es de aproximadamente su altura y esta usando un sombrero y una camisa roja.”

I calmly respond, “Yes.”

“Is there a man down the alley? He is about your height and wearing a hat and a red shirt.”

Por un momento estoy sorprendido. Quizá aún puedo huir. El policía esta esperando mi respuesta.
For a moment I’m surprised. Maybe I can still get away. The policeman is waiting for my response.

“Sí, oficial, ahí esta. Esta corriendo en aquella dirección.” Señalo el callejón.

Se voltea para correr.

“Yes, officer, there is. He is running that way.” I point down the alley.

He turns to run.

“¡Oficial, oficial!,” grita la señora vieja en una silla de ruedas. Ella señala hacia mí.

¡Oh no! Sabe que soy el ladrón. Puedo verlo en su cara.

“Officer, officer,” yells the old lady in a wheelchair. She points towards me.

Oh no! She knows I’m the robber. I can see it in her face.

El oficial mira a la señora. “¿Sí señora?”

Tomo las manijas de la silla de ruedas, “Ahora no abuela, el oficial esta ocupado.”

The officer looks at the lady. “Yes ma’am?”

I grab the handles of the wheelchair, “Not now grandma, the officer is busy.”

Empujo la silla de ruedas mientras el policía corre por el callejón.

Sonrío y desaparezco en la distancia.

I push the wheelchair away as the policeman runs down the alley.

I smile and disappear into the distance.
